Project 1 Exercise 1: Audio Dubbing:

Task Overview:
Place audio files on timeline and sync it with video.

Audio track:
  • 3 tracks for dialogue, one character, one track.
  • 4 tracks for sound effects,
  • 3 tracks for ambient sound.
  • Edit voice from female to male, male to female, human to cute animal/adult to kid: Premiere Pro → Audio Effects → Pitch Shifter → Semi tones.
  • Volume: Dialogue: between -6dB & -12dB, Ambience: below -20dB, Hard sound effects: Depend.
Process:

I imported the video into Premiere and added it to the audio track. I recorded the dialogue using a computer audio recorder.

There are three different characters in the video:
  • I designated A1 for the man
  • A2 for the young woman
  • A3 for the older woman.

I used the audio mixer to adjust the voices to suit each character. I also used the audio track mixer to keep the volume of all the dialogue between -6 and -12 decibels. I placed them on separate tracks (A1-A3) below the video track. Each clip was precisely trimmed to match the lip movements of the characters on screen.

Next, I searched for appropriate sound effects (SFX), such as the sounds of a door breaking and a neck snapping.

I saved the links to the audio files in a Google Sheet for easy reference and backup. After downloading the selected sounds, I imported them into Premiere Pro and placed them on additional tracks (A4-A6). I spent considerable time adjusting the video and audio to ensure they were in sync. Once complete, I returned to the audio track mixer to ensure the volume met the decibel requirements for the assignment.

During the mixing phase, I created soft fades between the scenes and the ambient sounds. I balanced all the audio components – dialogues, sound effects, and background ambiance.
